With the development of power system, the capacity of operating equipment is increasing. For example, thermal power units, the capacity of a single unit has exceeded 600 MW, and hydraulic power units, the maximum capacity of a single unit has reached 700 MW. The AC power frequency withstand voltage test of these equipment, if the traditional test equipment (i.e. power frequency test transformer) is used, the test transformer and voltage regulator are very bulky because of the large capacity required for the test. Heavy, large capacity test power supply is also very difficult to solve in the field, field test is extremely inconvenient. Power frequency resonance device has great advantages in terms of test power capacity, equipment weight, test waveform and investment.

Parallel resonance has the same reactive power compensation as series resonance and its corresponding advantages, but it can not fully have the other three characteristics of series resonance. Generally, series resonant AC voltage withstanding mode is adopted.

 

In order to test safely and smoothly, the series resonant withstand voltage test must first adjust L to reach full resonant L0 at a given low initial excitation voltage UJ0 (usually several hundred volts), slow step-up within a small detuning ST range, and reach the predetermined withstand voltage value at UC.
